Conservatory Conversion Project: A Complete Transformation

From Conservatory to Warm, All-Season Living Space

This project shows how we turned a conservatory into a stunning, fully insulated extension that feels like a natural part of the home. Working on the existing footprint, we rebuilt the structure from the ground up and created a bright, welcoming room that the homeowners can enjoy all year round.

Below, we walk through the work step by step.

Phase 1: Clearing the Old Conservatory

We began by taking down the original conservatory and clearing the area so we had a clean base to work from. Once everything was removed, we checked the existing foundations with trial digs to make sure they were suitable for the new build.

Trades involved: Demolition, groundwork, waste removal.

Phase 2: Building the New Structure and Floor

With the old conservatory gone, we started constructing the new timber structure. We installed insulation throughout the floor and walls to help create a comfortable indoor space that feels more like part of the main house.

  • New insulated floor being laid
  • Timber framing taking shape
  • Openings being made for the new windows and doors

This work forms the core of the new extension.

Trades involved: Carpenters, insulation installers.

Phase 3: Installing the New Roof With Velux Windows

Next, we built a solid new roof using composite slate-style tiles. This gives the extension a smart appearance from the outside and makes the interior feel more like a proper room rather than a conservatory.

We also fitted Velux roof windows to bring in sunlight and fresh air.

The photos show the progress from the early roof structure through to the finished tiled surface.

Trades involved: Roofers, carpenters, electricians.

Phase 4: Membranes, Boarding and External Cladding

Once the roof was secure, we wrapped the structure in breathable membrane and fitted timber battens. This prepared the walls for the external finish.

We then installed Rosewood cladding, chosen to match the style of the existing windows and create a clean, modern look.

You can see in the images how the building quickly takes shape at this stage, with the cladding giving it a smart, finished appearance.

Trades involved: Carpenters, cladding installers.

Phase 5: New Windows and Doors

This phase included installing all new, matching Rosewood-framed glazing and doors.

We supplied and installed:

  • A new set of French doors opening into the conservatory
  • A new internal door between the garage and conservatory
  • All new Rosewood windows, fitted with argon-filled, A-rated double glazing

Every unit comes with:

  • 10-year fabricators guarantee
  • 10-year sealed-unit guarantee
  • HomePro insurance-backed guarantee
  • FENSA Building Regulations Certificate

These additions not only complete the look of the new extension but ensure the homeowner receives documented quality assurance and peace of mind.

Trades involved: Glaziers, door fitters, certification professionals.

Phase 6: Interior Plastering

With the structure complete, we moved inside to prepare the room for its final finishes.

We:

  • Fully plastered the walls and ceiling
  • Installed insulated thermal boards to help maintain a comfortable indoor atmosphere

This stage sets the foundation for a smooth, clean interior ready for decorating.

Trades involved: Plasterers, joiners.

Phase 7: Finishing and Decoration

The room was then brought to life with a range of finishing touches.

We:

  • Installed new skirting boards, architraves, and window boards
  • Applied the homeowner’s chosen paint colour
  • Fitted modern ceiling spotlights and completed all electrical finishing
  • Ensured every detail—from woodwork to paint—was neatly completed

The final interior photos show a bright, inviting room that now feels like a natural extension of the home.

Trades involved: Painters, electricians, joiners.

Final Result: A Warm, Modern Living Space

The finished extension looks and feels completely different from the original conservatory. The solid walls, new roof, and updated windows and doors create a cosy, inviting room that can be enjoyed every day.

With its fresh interior, smart exterior cladding, and thoughtful finishing touches, this project is a great example of how we turn older conservatories into practical, stylish living spaces for our clients.
